Senegal’s Defence Minister, General Birame Diop (rtd), has applauded the performance of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), describing its efforts as vital to regional peace and stability.

General Diop led a high-powered delegation, including Guinean Defence Minister Dionysio Cabi and Senegalese Ambassador Musa on a courtesy visit to the mission’s Force Headquarters in Bissau City.

Received by Force Commander Brigadier General Edward Odinya Ojabo, the Senegalese Minister listened to a detailed briefing on operations, achievements, and challenges before commending the force for its resilience and professionalism.

“I commend your comprehensive and enlightening work. Your achievements so far reflect dedication, unity, and sacrifice,” General Diop said, while charging troops to uphold teamwork, mutual respect, and discipline in all operations.

He underscored the importance of respecting Guinea-Bissau’s authorities, cooperating with local security agencies, and prioritizing the welfare of civilians scarred by years of hardship.

“The reputation of ECOWAS and its member states rests on your shoulders, protect it at all times,” he declared.

The visit reaffirms Dakar’s commitment to strengthening ECOWAS peacekeeping initiatives as instability continues to threaten parts of West Africa.
