In a moment heavy with symbolism and pride, the Nigerian Navy on Wednesday turned its headquarters in Abuja into a theatre of sporting triumph as the victorious CNS Spikers formally presented the 2025 National Volleyball Premier League trophies to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.

The ceremony followed a commanding campaign by the Navy’s elite volleyball teams in Nigeria’s top-flight league, which climaxed on December 14 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

By the final whistle, the CNS Spikers had not merely competed, they had conquered.

Leading the delegation, Chairman of the team, Captain M.Y. Abashi, delivered the headline achievement: the male CNS Spikers emerged overall champions of the Premier League, clinching gold and lifting the most coveted trophy in Nigerian volleyball.

Their march to the title was emphatic, marked by decisive victories over formidable rivals from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as seasoned state-owned clubs.

The women’s team matched the intensity, producing a resilient and disciplined run that earned them the silver medal and a second-place finish overall.

Their only setback came against the Nigeria Customs Service team, in a tightly contested encounter that underscored the rising competitiveness of the league.

Vice Admiral Abbas, who monitored the teams’ progress throughout the season via regular operational briefings, received the trophies with visible pride.

He praised the players for translating discipline, teamwork and endurance hallmarks of naval service into sporting excellence, noting that their performance had elevated the image of the Nigerian Navy on the national stage.

The Chief of the Naval Staff reaffirmed the Navy’s strategic commitment to sports development, describing it as a force multiplier that enhances physical fitness, morale and operational effectiveness.

He assured the teams of sustained institutional support and expressed confidence in their readiness to fly Nigeria’s flag in future international competitions.

The event concluded with the formal handover of the trophies, followed by a group photograph that captured senior naval officers, players and officials in celebration a defining snapshot of a service that had once again proven its ability to dominate both on duty and on the court.

For the Nigerian Navy, the 2025 Premier League triumph was more than a sporting victory; it was a statement of supremacy, discipline and national pride.
