Shock in the Barracks: Lt. Haruna Dies From Severe Burns – Army Orders Full Probe

The Nigerian Army has announced the tragic death of one of its officers, Lieutenant S. Haruna, who sustained fatal burns following a domestic incident involving his wife on 22 September 2025 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement issued by Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Uyo, the Army confirmed that the officer was immediately evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), where he received intensive medical attention.

Despite the best efforts of medical specialists to stabilize his condition, Lt. Haruna succumbed to his injuries on 6 October 2025, while still under treatment.

The Nigerian Army expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, extending heartfelt condolences to the late officer’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“The Nigerian Army commiserates deeply with the family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased officer and prays for the repose of his soul,” the statement read.

The Army further revealed that an investigation was immediately launched to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident leading to the officer’s death. Authorities assured that the outcome of the inquiry will be made public upon completion, reflecting the Army’s commitment to transparency and justice.

Reaffirming its institutional principles, the Nigerian Army emphasized that discipline, professionalism, and accountability remain the cornerstone of its operations and personnel conduct.

“The Nigerian Army appreciates the support and understanding of the general public,” the statement added, assuring Nigerians that every aspect of the tragic case will be handled with utmost integrity and due process.
