The Headquarters 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Benin City, has issued a stern warning to the Oghede and Iyanomo communities in Edo State to immediately stop encroaching on lands belonging to the Nigerian Army.

In a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday by Captain CHINONSO POLYCARP OTEH, the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 4 Brigade expressed deep concern over the actions of community leaders, particularly the Enogie (Traditional Ruler), King Osazebare Aghahowa, who has been encouraging the encroachment.

The Nigerian Army lawfully acquired the land at Ekehuan in 1966 and was issued a Certificate of Occupancy in 1994.

Despite a peaceful conflict resolution process, the community has continued to sell portions of Nigerian Army land to developers and individuals.

Some of the illegal structures pose significant risks to public safety, being located in restricted zones, including areas designated for live firing exercises.

The Enogie is accused of forging a Nigerian Army document, falsely claiming that the Army had relinquished the disputed land to the community.

The Brigade therefore warned that if the illegal activities do not cease, they will take decisive actions, including demolishing illegal structures on military land.

The Nigerian Army remained committed to its constitutional mandate of ensuring peace, safety, and security in Edo State and will not be deterred by acts of blackmail or misinformation.
