The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, led a high-level delegation to the United States for a Programme Management Review Meeting on the acquisition of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters.
The meeting, held in San Diego, California, according to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the
Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday brought together top officials from the US Government and representatives of Bell Textron, the manufacturers of the AH-1Z helicopters.
The CAS expressed gratitude to the US Government for its strategic partnership with Nigeria and noted that the acquisition of the AH-1Z helicopters will significantly enhance the Nigerian Air Force’s combat effectiveness, operational efficiency, and mission readiness.
He reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to expediting the procurement process and ensuring the seamless integration of the new aircraft.
During the visit, the CAS inspected the AH-1Z helicopters and engaged with senior officers of the United States Marine Corps on best practices for operation, sustainment, and logistics support.
He emphasized the NAF’s commitment to the effective and responsible deployment of all acquired air assets in the fight against terrorism and other security threats.
The CAS also extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support and strategic guidance, noting that the progress made in the AH-1Z acquisition project reflects the President’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
