The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has lauded the Super Falcons for their historic triumph at the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they clinched a record-extending 10th title in Rabat, Morocco.

SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, in a statement released on Sunday through the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, praised the team for their resilience and determination, especially in their dramatic comeback victory over host nation Morocco in the final.

Benjamin described the Falcons’ performance as a reflection of commitment and focus, urging that both players and officials be duly rewarded for their efforts.

“On behalf of the teeming sports writers in Nigeria, I congratulate the Super Falcons for exhibiting remarkable resilience in their pursuit of the 10th WAFCON title,” he stated. “Their performance shows that as a nation, we can reach greater heights across all sectors if we remain committed.”

The SWAN President also highlighted the rapid growth of women’s football across Africa, noting the unprecedented level of fan engagement during the tournament.

“The final matchday was truly spectacular. Despite being played late into the night, many Nigerians and fans across the continent stayed glued to their screens to support the team. It shows the immense potential sports has to unify and inspire,” he said.

Benjamin called on the government, private sector, and well-meaning individuals to invest more in sports infrastructure and athlete development, noting that the sports sector holds significant economic potential for Nigeria.

In a related development, SWAN also celebrated Nigeria’s para-badminton star, Eniola Bolaji, for winning gold at the 2025 British and Irish Para-Badminton International held in Cardiff, Wales.

Bolaji, who previously won bronze at the 2024 Paralympic Games, stunned the world by defeating the top.
