Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) have intercepted an armed militia mobilised to launch an attack on communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, recovering weapons and ammunition in the process.

According to a statement issued on Thursday and made available to newsmen by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Media Information Officer of the JTF in Abuja informed that the operation was launched on 4 September 2025 following a distress call on the movement of militias towards Fann District.

Troops swiftly laid an ambush and successfully intercepted a suspect at Kaskra in Ropp District, arresting him with one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested militia was mobilised from a nearby community to attack settlements under Nding Village, also in Barkin Ladi LGA.

He is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to provide intelligence for follow-up operations.

The military disclosed that troops are actively pursuing other militias believed to have been mobilised for the foiled attack, with efforts underway to recover additional weapons.

Reaffirming its mandate, the JTF Operation ENDURING PEACE assured residents that it remains committed to neutralising threats, preventing further bloodshed, and restoring lasting peace across Plateau State.
