Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade have scored a major victory against criminal networks in Kwara State, neutralising an arms courier ferrying deadly weapons and recovering a cache of rifles during a snap checkpoint ambush along the Share–Gbugbu Road in Edu Local Government Area.

The decisive operation, carried out on Thursday, 25 September 2025, followed credible intelligence that arms were being transported from Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State.

At about 8:30 a.m., soldiers at Patrol Base Bukungi flagged down a suspicious Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle (Bayelsa SAG-133 XA).

The driver attempted a desperate escape but was swiftly taken out by the vigilant troops.

A search of the car revealed the chilling cargo: five AK-47 rifles and three loaded magazines concealed inside a charcoal sack.

Commending the troops, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, hailed their professionalism and urged them to sustain the offensive against criminal elements.

He assured law-abiding citizens that the Brigade will continue to intensify operations to protect lives and property across Kwara and beyond.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its resolve to deny terrorists and criminals freedom of action, urging the public to support security agencies with timely intelligence to help defeat emerging threats.
