In a decisive counter-kidnapping operation, troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued seven abducted persons in Taraba State, following a two-day offensive against criminal hideouts.
According to Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations
6 Brigade, Nigerian Army in a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, the victims were kidnapped on August 3, 2025, along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road by suspected armed kidnappers.
Acting swiftly, the military launched a coordinated search-and-rescue mission on August 5 and 6, combing dense forests and surrounding communities in pursuit of the perpetrators.
According to the Nigerian Army, four victims were safely rescued on August 5 in Chinkai Forest, while three female victims were later found on August 6 in Owedi community, Wukari Local Government Area.
The kidnappers reportedly abandoned their captives and fled after coming under intense military pressure and superior firepower.
The operation was described as a major victory by Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, who commended his troops for their professionalism and commitment to the mission.
“This successful rescue demonstrates our unwavering resolve to dismantle criminal networks, protect lives, and restore public confidence in security operations across Taraba State,” Brig. Gen. Uwa stated.
The army reassured residents of its continued offensive against banditry, kidnapping, and other threats to peace and security in the region.
The rescue underscores the growing effectiveness of Operation Whirl Stroke, a joint security effort designed to combat insurgency and criminality in Nigeria’s North Central zone.
