Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has congratulated Ambassador Cheikh Niang on his appointment as Senegal’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, describing him as a seasoned diplomat whose experience will deepen regional and global cooperation.

In a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Tuggar praised Niang’s distinguished diplomatic career, noting that his previous postings including as Senegal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador to Japan, the United States, South Africa, and Consul General in New York, had prepared him for the task ahead.

“Ambassador Niang’s wealth of experience is expected to bear significantly on his new assignment,” Tuggar said.

“Nigeria looks forward to working closely with Senegal to further strengthen our historic, strong, and vibrant relationship for the benefit of all our peoples.”

The appointment of Niang, a veteran diplomat with decades of international service, is seen as a move to consolidate Senegal’s foreign policy posture at a time of shifting dynamics in West Africa and beyond.
