U.S.-Nigeria CIP: A Step towards Strengthening Economic Relations and Driving Growth

The United States and Nigerian governments, along with business leaders from both countries on Wednesday launched the working group meetings of the U.S.-Nigeria Commercial and Investment Partnership (CIP) in Abuja.

The partnership aimed to deepen bilateral commercial cooperation and expand economic opportunities in both nations.

The CIP seeks to foster job creation, encourage private sector engagement, and recommend solutions to policymakers to address key challenges in critical sectors.

The inaugural discussions focused on three working groups: agriculture, the digital economy, and infrastructure, comprising U.S. and Nigerian private sector participants.

The event was led by senior officials from both countries, including U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills and Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.

Mills, Jr. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Middle East and Africa, Thomas Bruns stated that, “The U.S.-Nigeria Commercial and Investment Partnership (CIP) aimed to foster economic growth, create opportunities, and benefit people across both nations.

He said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to deepening economic ties, fostering innovation, and expanding opportunities for businesses in both countries.

The senior officials agreed to review progress on a biannual basis, with the next formal meeting scheduled for Fall 2025
