A Medical Expert, Mallam Nurudeen Bello of Shehu Idris College of Health Science and Technology, Makarfi in Kaduna State has warned Nigerians residing close to riverside areas to be conscious of water borne diseases and flood.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, North-West, Nigeria recently, Mallam Bello said the warning followed the spread of flood in some part of Nigeria, such as Benue, Plateau, Kogi and among other states.

He alerted Nigerians that unprotected drainage system and improper sewage disposal is the major contributor to the spread of water borne diseases, especially during rainy season, while he encouraged residents to always maintain good hygiene and clean environment to avoid escalation of flood across the country.

The Medical Expert called on the state government and other relevant agencies to Adequately educate people on the dangers of Flooding and water borne diseases such as Cholera ,Diarrhea, Typhoid and other diseases.

Mallam Nurudeen Bello opined that people living around the river banks should immediately leave such places for fear of outbreak of water borne diseases in the event of flooding.

He called on the relevant agencies says: “We are calling on all humanitarian organization such as NEMA,SEMA,RED CROSS and Network of Climate and environmental reporters to double their effort in creating awareness of water Borne diseases and to sensitize citizens residing at the river banks to avert loss of human lives and properties.
