The Interfaith Forum of Muslims and Christian Women’s Association in conjunction with the Youth Wing has charged the general public to shun rumor mongering, hate speeches and reprisal attacks for Nigeria to develop as other Nations.
The Association also implored all the religious leaders to always promote peace in their teachings and sermons according the tenets of the Holy Books.
They gave the charge in a communique signed by the Executive Director, Reverend Sister Anne Falola, General Co-ordinator, Hajiya Amina Kazaure, the Christian Co-ordinator, Mrs. Elizabeth Abuk and the Muslims Co-ordinator Hajiya Daharatu Agmed Aliyu, issues and made available to newsmen at the end of a two-day Retreat with the Theme: “Together, We Can Make WIC better and Bigger” organized by Women Interfaith Council (WIC) Kaduna State Chapter on Sunday.
The communique also decried all forms of sectionalism being stirred up by certain segments of the country to cause division and, make everyone suspicious of the other person.
It enjoined all the members of the society to extend hands of friendship to displace persons, refugees, migrants and people affected by violet conflicts and natural disasters.
The communique reads, arising from the two day retreat, Women and Youth Interfaith Council seeks to use this medium to congratulate Nigeria for attaining 57 years of independence.
“As interfaith body, we resolve and re-affirmed to continue to stand and work for peace as Mothers and Youths of faith of a culture of peace.
“That Women and Youth interfaith Council are determined to continue to promote oneness and peaceful co-existence among-st the different ethno-religious groups in Kaduna State and in Nigeria at large.
“That Women and Youth Interfaith Council will promote the spirit of volunteerism and not for profit making activities.
“That Women and Youth Interfaith Council appreciate the support of all donors and solicit for support from their members (Women and Youth Interfaith Councils) for the expansion of our activities to the larger community.
“While we commit ourselves at ensuring that we do all that have been listed above, we implore the members of the society to always respect individual’s differences and faiths.
“Appeal to the general public to always provide support for the widows, orphans and other vulnerable members of the society.
“Call on the youth to shun all forms of violence and always embrace peace. Emphasize on the need for people to unite to ether as a requirement for development in all aspect of live. they stressed.
The Council was concerned about the prolonged economic hardship, corruption, incessant kidnapping, high incidence of rape and maternal mortality in the country and appealed to governments at all levels to do the needful to stem the tide so that Nigerians can country to remain peaceful and prosperous.
They expressed their sincere appreciations to all tires of government and their agencies for working relentlessly at providing enabling environments for peace and stability to reign in the country irrespective of the challenges they face.
They therefore informed that as interfaith body, women and the youths will continue to partners with the government and other stakeholders in the areas of peace building and other development efforts for Nigeria to occupy its rightful position among the comity of Nations.
